Mickey Sanker

Mickey is a NAVY Veteran that served from 1997 to 2008. During his time in service, he was a Damage Controlman and a Steelworker.

While he loved both jobs, Mickey was able to travel worldwide as a Damage Controlman on his vessel. Aside from his deployments, he experienced Denmark, Germany, Australia, Japan, and so many other countries and cultures!

Unlike most military personnel, Mickey did not join the Navy in his late teens or early twenties. Instead, he was 31 years old when he joined the service. He reminisced on his days of service, saying, “It was the smartest thing I ever did in my entire life… joining the military.”

Mickey went on to explain: “You remember the good times 99 percent of the time over the bad times. You remember your friends, traveling, and seeing this and doing that.”

Mickey did not want to leave the NAVY in 2008; however, his full-body Rheumatoid Arthritis began creating physical barriers for him. For years, he has lived in Tennessee without an HVAC system. Mickey reached out to Purple Heart Homes, and were abled to provide an HVAC system for the Veteran’s home.

“I appreciate the assistance you guys helped me with. It meant a lot to me. Just having an HVAC system throughout my house made it so much more comfortable.” Thank you, Mickey for years of service, and welcome to the PHH family!
