Justin Snider

Last Updated 12/5/2024Posted in Veteran Stories

As a child, Justin Snider was always intrigued by military films. His grandfather served with the Marines and his uncle served with the National Guard. His brother-in-law also served with the Navy. After his childhood friend was killed in Iraq back in 2008, Justin knew that it was time to take action.

Justin enlisted in the Army in September 2008 and completed his basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Active duty took him to Afghanistan, where he served as a 13B Cannon Crewmember and eventually ranked as a Specialist (SPC). He was discharged after completion of required active service in January 2012. When Justin reflects on his active duty history, he describes it as “a roller coaster with ups and downs, but it’s an experience not many people get to have.”

One of the hardest parts of transitioning back to civilian life was learning how to handle not having a strict plan structure consistently. However, Justin was honored for his service by his community on July 4th, 2016, which was a special moment for him. Justin suffers from PTSD and damage to his arms, knees, hips, and lower back due to his time in the Army. Excruciating pain and difficulty with movement frequent his lower back and knees the most, while overwhelming anxiety makes social situations troublesome. Justin credits his family and friends for supporting him once he returned home, but emphasizes, “My wife put up with the most by far. She is incredible and my true rock in life.”

Today, Justin resides with his wife, young daughter, and dog in his home state of Ohio. His current interests consist of working with cars and spending time at the shooting range.

Purple Heart Homes will be giving Justin a new roof, since his current roof is leaking substantially. When asked what this renovation means to him, Justin says, “I will be able to pay off other debts. I can’t put it into words and I can’t thank you enough. My experience with Purple Heart Homes has been great. You guys have gone above and beyond for me.”

We thank you, Justin, for going above and beyond with your dedication to the security of our nation. We are glad that we can include you and your family in our Purple Heart Homes family!
