Operation: Veteran Home Renovation

Purple Heart Homes is proud to present Operation: Veteran Home Renovation. Purple Heart Homes is partnering with participating credit unions to identify older Veterans who need a ramp, grab bars, railings, a clean yard or a fresh coat of paint on the inside or outside of their homes. Credit unions will raise the funds needed to complete the projects on Veterans’ homes.

The initiative has been developed to help make life for older Veterans and their caregivers a little easier, so they can safely age in the comfort of their own homes. It will be supported by Credit Unions Care.

Credit union staff and volunteers from the community will complete the projects on Veterans’ homes that can be done in a day or over the course of a single weekend. No project will exceed $10,000 and the average cost will be about $5,000. All work will be done at no cost to the Veteran or his or her family.

“We are honored to work with Purple Heart Homes to help our older Veterans who served our country, who combined with age and disability, have never asked for help, but have given us the freedom and safety we enjoy in our country,” says Karen Hart, Cornerstone Credit Union League EVP, CFO and Chief Member Services Officer. “We do not want our old brave soldiers to simply fade away, we want to recognize them and thank them for their service and sacrifices,” Hart added.

There are nine million U.S. military Veterans age 65 or older who live in the US. In Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, there are 1,013,759 Veterans who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. They are often overlooked in our communities and may even be living next door. They live on fixed incomes, face increased taxes and higher costs of living. Often times, older Veterans are not able to keep up with the maintenance on their homes.

“While this is a new campaign we are bringing to credit unions, it is not new to us” said John Gallina, Purple Heart Homes executive director and co-founder. We started our non-profit in 2008 to help older Veterans age in place. A simple ramp or railings can make a huge difference with the mobility issues older Veterans face each day.”

Sponsorship

We love our sponsors. Without them, we would not be able to complete most of the work that we do.

Purple Heart Homes would like to partner with your organization, corporation, or business. Sponsors may help raise funds, provide in-kind donations of materials, and collaborate on projects.

We are seeking sponsorships in the form of donations, grants, matching funds and, ultimately, long-term sustainable relationships for materials and/or services which will be used in our mission of “Improving Veterans’ Lives One Home At A time.”

THANK YOU to our current sponsors:

Chapters

A Purple Heart Homes chapter is a collection of community leaders, organized as a volunteer organization, operating within the culture and guidelines of Purple Heart Homes to provide assistance to eligible Disabled Veterans. Our chapters focus on VAIP (Veterans Aging in Place) projects, renovations or repairs made to homes that are owned by the Veteran. Projects vary greatly based on the needs of the Veteran and the capabilities of the chapter. Typical projects may include widening doorways, remodeling bathrooms, building ramps or installing railings. All projects focus on making life safer and easier for Veterans and their caregivers.

Fundraising

Belong to a civic group that needs a cause?  Have your own idea for a fundraiser? You can help! Become an integral part of our success by raising much-needed funds for our projects and Veteran families. Host a golf event, a chili cook-off or even a dinner in your home with friends. We can’t do it without you!

Speakers

Many companies, associations, membership groups and organizations book speakers for their annual conferences, board retreats, sales meetings and employee gatherings. We hope that you consider booking a trained motivational Purple Heart Homes speaker for your next event. Purple Heart Homes has created a speaker’s bureau consisting of Veterans, caregivers and volunteers that have participated in our programs and have become inspired to share their story and message with audiences of all sizes. Whether it is a keynote address or a smaller sales meeting, Purple Heart Homes speakers will engage and involve the audience with their stories about service and sacrifice.

Their messages will help any organization interested in improving sale performance, building better and stronger teams, and inspiring community leaders and employees.
